DragonSpeed announced Thursday (Dec. 19) that they have entered into a technical alliance with Texas-based Risi Competizione for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This will allow the team (as previously announced) to race in the GTD Pro class.
The previously announced Albert Costa will be joined by Ferrari factory drivers Miguel Molina, Thomas Neubauer and Davide Rigon for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. No announcement in regards to who will join Costa full-time after Daytona has been made.
DragonSpeed split their 2024 season in IMSA between the LMP2 and GT ranks. They started off with their ORECA 07-Gibson in three races with a total of eight different drivers. Their best runs were a pair of sevenths at Daytona and Sebring.
Later on, the team acquired a Ferrari 296 GT3 and fielded it in the GTD class at Indianapolis using No. 56. There, the trio of Henrik Hedman, Rasmus Lindh and Toni Vilander finished 13th in class.
At Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, the team moved to the GTD Pro class and used No. 82. The trio of Neubauer, Vilander and Vincent Abril finished 10th in class.
Back in October, DragonSpeed was announced by IMSA as having a full-season entry in the GTD class during the State of the Sport address.
That position was ultimately temporary. On Dec. 11, DragonSpeed announced that they would switch to GTD Pro. That came with Costa’s appointment.
Costa comes to the team from Conquest Racing, where he was full-time in the No. 34 Ferrari alongside Manny Franco. The duo finished fourth in GTD points with a victory in the Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. They also finished second at Watkins Glen and third in Daytona.
Costa also made a one-off appearance in the GTD Pro class at Detroit in June. Sharing a No. 35 Ferrari with Daniel Serra, Costa finished seventh.
Risi Competizione has competed part-time in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for many years, primarily in the Michelin Endurance Cup events. In 2024, the team raced five times. They claimed the class victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and had second-place finishes at Sebring and Road Atlanta. Rigon was a part of the team along with Serra.
