Kyle Larson went out for practice Friday and showed that the struggles of Chevrolet at Phoenix were over. Saturday (March 11), he continued his statement by winning the pole for Sunday’s United Rentals Work United 500 at Phoenix Raceway.
Larson’s lap of 130.237 mph helped him win his 16th career pole award, outrunning a surprising Denny Hamlin. Hamlin, like the other Toyotas, had struggled this weekend at Phoenix, but Hamlin will start second, along with teammate Christopher Bell, who will start fifth.
Las Vegas winner William Byron will start third, followed by Brad Keselowski and Bell. Ross Chastain qualified sixth, with Michael McDowell, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch, and Erik Jones rounding out the top 10.
Larson was also fastest overall during the first round of qualifying with a lap at 131.752 mph in the B group, faster than his lap that topped practice on Friday. Byron was fastest in the A group at 130.657 mph.
You can watch the United Rentals Work United 500 on Sunday (March 12) at 3:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. PT on FOX.
