Adam Adelson Wins Sonoma GT America Race No. 2

Sonoma SRO 2023

Wright Motorsports’ Adam Adelson led flag-to-flag Sunday morning (April 2) to win GT America powered by AWS Race No. 2 at Sonoma Raceway. It is his first GT3 victory in GT America.

Adelson started from pole by virtue of having the fastest lap in Race No. 1 Saturday. Once the green came out, Adelson was able to slowly pull away from Crowdstrike Racing with Riley Motorsports’ George Kurtz.

Adelson was never seriously threatened in the 40-minute race. Meanwhile, Kurtz fell into a battle for second with RealTime Racing’s Anthony Bartone.

The event ultimately ended up finishing under yellow. With seven minutes to go, Flying Lizard Motorsports’ Jason Bell spun exiting turn 7 and nosed into the wall. The race could not be restarted before time expired.

Bartone was able to snatch second from Kurtz right before the caution flew. TKO Motorsports’ Memo Gidley finished fourth in his Mercedes, while CRP Racing’s Jason Daskalos was fifth.

In GT4, Rotek Racing’s Robb Holland continued where he left off Saturday. Starting from pole, Holland tried to pull away from the rest of the class immediately.

Archangel Motorsports’ Todd Coleman had something to say about that as he was able to run down Holland for the lead. In turn 11, the two drivers had contact, putting Coleman on two wheels. The contact cut Holland’s left front tire, forcing him out of the race.

Despite the contact, Coleman was able to take the lead with Bell giving chase. Then, the stewards gave Coleman responsibility for the contact with Holland. As a result, Coleman had to serve a drive-through penalty.

Bell got the lead, but not for long. TR3 Racing’s Jon Branam drove up from the rear of the field in his Aston Martin to take the lead. From there, Branam was able to hold on for the win.

Flying Lizard Motorsports’ Elias Sabo was second, then Chouest-Povoledo Racing’s Ross Chouest, The Racer’s Group’s Tom Savage and The Heart of Racing’s Gray Newell.
