Austin Hill’s dominance at drafting tracks continued Friday when he captured the pole for Saturday’s (April 20) NASCAR Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway with a speed of 181.629 mph.
It’s Hill’s fourth career pole and third at Talladega. Hill previously started on the front row at Daytona and Atlanta this year, winning both races.
Hill, in the No. 21 Chevy, will start alongside his Richard Childress Racing teammate Jesse Love, who ran a lap of 181.120 mph. Love was the pole sitter at Daytona and Atlanta.
Parker Kligerman rounds out an all-Chevrolet top three with a lap of 180.693. Cole Custer starts fourth and Sammy Smith takes fifth.
Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Ryan Truex and Chandler Smith will start sixth and seventh. Riley Herbst took eighth ahead of Josh Williams in ninth and Sheldon Creed in 10th.
Absent from the top 10 were the Xfinity Dash 4 Cash competitors who’ll race for $100,000 on Saturday. AJ Allmendinger, who finished fourth last week to qualify, has the best starting position of the bunch in 14th.
Texas winner Sam Mayer will start 15th with Justin Allgaier alongside him in 16th. Following a runner-up finish at Texas, Ryan Sieg starts 25th as the furthest back of the Dash 4 Cash drivers.
Mason Massey looked to be the only car heading home after qualifying, but he was put back in the show following a post-session technical inspection. Inspection after The roof hatch of the No. 6 Chevrolet from JD Motorsports driven by Garrett Smithley was not sealed, resulting in his lap being disallowed and the team failing to qualify for the 38-car field.
The Ag-Pro 300 is scheduled to begin at 4:20 p.m. ET on Saturday. TV coverage will be on FOX Sports 1 and the FOX Sports App.
