We go from the high speeds at Atlanta Motor Speedway to a road course at Watkins Glen International — it’s time to make some money turning both left and right.
The main trend I saw in my preparation for this weekend was the fact that in 16 of the last NASCAR Cup Series 20 races at the track, the winner has started inside of the top six. That can help us dictate some potential closing line value in this race as well.
Kyle Larson may be the favorite to win this race outright at +650, but I don’t mind that at all here. In Larson’s last eight starts at this track he has started in the top six in every race.
Hendrick Motorsports looks to continue its dominance at road courses this season. With William Byron winning at Circuit of the Americas, Larson at Sonoma and Alex Bowman at the Chicago street course, does that mean Chase Elliott at +1,000 can secure the HMS sweep of road racing thus far?
Keep an eye on drivers like Christopher Bell and Austin Cindric, too. Both see themselves in a favorable spot in the playoff standings after Atlanta. Bell finished third in this race last season and always seems to turn it on in the playoffs. Cindric and the No. 2 team may have an advantage over some of the field in getting to run the tire test for the new compound we’ll see at the track this weekend.
