Alex Palou’s Stock Is Soaring in IndyCar While Tides Shift Further in F1

Trey Lyle

Alex Palou wrapped up his third IndyCar title in the last four years on Sunday (Sept. 15) in Nashville while Max Verstappen’s championship lead in Formula 1 took yet another blow in Baku.

Palou’s title was wrapped up early in the race when the most unusual form of bad luck struck his title rival, Will Power. What of the others who ended the season toward the top of the points? What could have been for Scott McLaughlin or Colton Herta?

In Formula 1, Oscar Piastri drove an immaculate race to claim his second victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with Drivers’ Championship leader Max Verstappen finishing all the way in fourth. McLaren, for whom Piastri drives, now leads the Constructors’ Championship while Verstappen’s lead in the drivers’ race has dropped to just 59 points over Lando Norris. What’s next in the recently-flip-flopped world of F1?
