In the round-up: Max Verstappen hopes that Red Bull’s constructors’ championship challenge is not over after his Interlagos win.
In brief
Red Bull can carry “momentum” of Brazil win
Despite being 49 points behind constructors’ championship leaders McLaren, Verstappen says Red Bull are still looking to try and catch their rivals after his victory in the wet in Brazil.
“I do feel that even in Brazil, in the dry, we were quite decent, finally, again in race pace,” said Verstappen.
“Brazil is of course a completely different track, completely different temperatures. But I just hope that we can continue that momentum a little bit. There’s plenty still to race for, even in the constructors’ I think there’s a chance. So we’ll see what we can do.”
Interlagos front row a ‘one-off’ – Russell
Despite securing a front row start for the Brazilian Grand Prix last time out, George Russell does not expect Mercedes to be in contention for a repeat performance this weekend in Las Vegas.
“Brazil was definitely a bit of a one-off, I think,” Russell said. “When it rains, it presents opportunities. And for ourself, it was an opportunity. For everyone at Alpine, it was a huge opportunity, which they capitalised.
“I think we need to look back to the sprint qualifying and the sprint race for a bit of a fairer picture of where we are – and that was behind the front four teams.”
Aston Martin announce first WEC drivers
Aston Martin has revealed Harry Tincknell and Alex Riberas as the first drivers for its Valkyrie hypercar programme which will compete in next year’s World Endurance Championship. The team also announced it will used the car numbers ‘007’ and ‘009’ as it did for its previous factory effort in the series.
Meanwhile AF Corse also confirmed Robert Kubica will remain with their privateer 499P hypercar number 83 squad next year, alongside Yifei Ye and newcomer Phil Hanson.
