Formula 1: Sergio Perez Leaves Red Bull with Immediate Effect

Following four seasons driving for Red Bull Racing in Formula 1, Mexican racer Sergio Perez announced today his departure from the Milton Keynes-based team with immediate effect.

After a weak season and months of speculation, Mexican driver Sergio Perez officially announced Wednesday his departure from Red Bull Racing F1, as both parties agreed to part ways for 2025 with two years left on his contract.

I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an amazing team,” Checo shared in a letter released through social media.

Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience, and I’ll always cherish the successes we achieved together. We broke records and reached remarkable milestones, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way.”

The 34-year-old, who joined the squad in 2021, racing alongside four-time F1 world champion Max Verstappen, helped Red Bull achieve two FIA Formula One Constructors’ championships, claiming five race wins and three pole positions, stepping into the podium on 29 occasions.

Moreover, the Guadalajara-born has left his mark in the sport over 14 seasons, competing at the pinnacle of motorsport.

It has also been an honor to race alongside Max as a teammate all these years and to share in our success,” Perez further outlined. “A special thank you to the fans around the world, especially to the Mexican fans. We’ll meet again soon. And remember… Never give up.”

His career future beyond the decision is uncertain, but he might not be saying farewell to the series just yet.

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing Team Principal and CEO, commented: “I would like to thank Checo for all he has done for Oracle Red Bull Racing over the past four seasons. From the moment he joined in 2021, he proved himself to be an extraordinary team player, helping us to two Constructors’ titles and our first 1-2 finish in the Drivers’ championship.

His five wins, all on street circuits, were also a spectacular mark of his determination to always push to the limit. While Checo will not race for the Team next season, he will always be an extremely popular team member and a treasured part of our history. Thank you, Checo.”

With 11 Formula 1 Grand Prix under his belt, Liam Lawson, 22, is the favorite candidate to replace Perez for next season. However, who will join Verstappen in 2025 has yet to be announced.
