Formula 1 has announced it will not be replacing the Russian Grand Prix this season, meaning the calendar will stay at 22 races for 2022.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine prompted global sanctions against the nation, and Formula 1 confirmed earlier in the year that it has cancelled its obligations to head to Russia as planned this year, and in years to come.
Rumours had previously been circling as to where the sport may race instead in its absence, with senior officials having previously hoped to fill the slot vacated by Russia, in the weekend of 23-25 September.

There had been talks of a possible double header in Singapore, or a return to Jeddah for a second Saudi Arabian race this year – but Formula 1 has now opted against adding to its record calendar this year, and will see 22 rounds instead that will match the tally set in the 2021 season.
Russia’s removal from the planned triple header in the calendar will now reduced to two back-to-back races instead, in Singapore and Japan respectively.
