Denny Hamlin claimed the pole for the NASCAR Cup Series’ Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway after going 160.413 mph in the first round of qualifying.
Rain came out after the first two groups finished their qualifying runs, so the lineup was set by group A’s and B’s speeds, allowing Hamlin to get his second pole of the year.
Joey Logano was quickest in group B, going 160.107 mph in his lap, and will start next to Hamlin on the front row. Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott make up the second row, while Sonoma Raceway winner Daniel Suarez rounds out the top five.
Ryan Blaney is sixth, Suarez’ Trackhouse Racing Team cohort Ross Chastain is seventh and Kevin Harvick starts eighth. Hamlin’s Joe Gibbs Racing colleagues Christopher Bell and Martin Truex Jr. begin ninth and 10th, respectively.
Kyle Busch had an incident in his run, spinning and making contact with the wall.
The Ally 400 airs on June 26 at 5 p.m. ET on NBC and Motor Racing Network (MRN) radio.
