Mike Krack has lauded Fernando Alonso’s “calibre and experience”, believing Aston Martin’s new signing could be the key towards the team becoming race winners.
Last Wednesday Aston Martin learnt that they would need a new driver for next season, Sebastian Vettel informing the team that this season would be his last in Formula 1.
The German told team owner Lawrence Stroll of his decision on Wednesday, and then informed the rest of the team a day later.
Despite saying they had no “Plan B” in mind, it took Aston Martin less than five days to sign another World Champion as his replacement, Alonso.
After two seasons back on the grid with Alpine, the 41-year-old is swapping to Aston Martin in a multi-year deal.
Aston Martin are hoping the Spaniard can do what Vettel was unable do, turn Aston Martin into a race-winning team.
Although CEO Stroll has invested heavily in Aston Martin, the team has yet to produce the goods.
Their best result this season was Vettel’s P6 at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix while they have managed just one double points-haul in 13 races.
It has left the team languishing down in ninth place having scored just 20 points.
Team boss Krack is hoping Alonso will inspire the team to greatness when he lines up alongside Lance Stroll next season.

“We know that nearly everyone can learn from someone of Fernando’s calibre and experience.
“We are confident that he will inspire everyone to lift their game, and that will only enhance the already infectious energy that exists within the team.
“We are on a journey to create a winning organisation, and it is clear that Fernando will accelerate our progress and bring us to a performance in which we can take pride.”
Alonso will team up with Stroll, the Canadian confirmed for fifth season at the Silverstone-based team.
“We are delighted to have Fernando and Lance as our driver line-up next year,” Krack continued.
“The combination of experience and youth will be incredibly strong and both drivers look forward to competing and working together.
“The team has a new leadership focused on the…
