FIA removes Masi, announces new virtual F1 race control system

Removing Masi won't solve F1 credibility concerns

Following the outcome of an investigation into the events of last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, motor racing’s governing body has elected to run with a new race director structure.

Masi will no longer continue in his role, but has been offered another job within the FIA.

Instead, starting from the pre-season F1 test at Barcelona, the FIA will alternate between using WEC race director Eduardo Freitas and former DTM race director Niels Wittich.

As well as changing race director, the FIA is to introduce a new virtual race control system, as well as ban direct team communications to the race director.
