Cordeel three penalty points away from ban after just six races · RaceFans

Amaury Cordeel has narrowly escaped a race ban after not being penalised further by the stewards for receiving multiple penalties in the Formula 2 feature race.

Cordeel had been penalised three times and accrued four penalty points in the opening two rounds. He faced two 10-second time penalties in the Bahrain feature race for speeding in the pit lane, however, was awarded no penalty points both times.

In Jeddah he was then hit with four penalty points for passing Logan Sargeant’s stricken car at double or even more of the speeds other drivers did, despite having been shown double waved yellow and red flags for more than half a lap. Cordeel admitted that it was due to “inattention” to flag signals and both he and Van Amersfoort Racing were told to do better in future by the stewards.

During the Imola feature race Cordeel was giving three penalties for exceeding track limits. After an initial warning, Cordeel was given a five second time penalty, a ten second penalty and finally a drive-through penalty. After serving his drive-through penalty, Cordeel was then further penalised with a 10-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane.

Over the course of the penalties, Cordeel accrued five penalty points, bringing him to a total of nine points after just three Formula 2 events this year.

For the first five-second track limits penalty, Cordeel was handed one penalty point. Then, two points for the subsequent fifth track limit violation and ten-second time penalty, with a further two points for exceeding track limits a sixth time, alongside the drive-through penalty.

Cordeel was then handed another five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane by 3.2km/h early in the race, then given another ten second stop-and-go penalty for exceeding the pit limit by 39.2km/h hour, meaning Cordeel was driving in the pit lane at over 99km/h. No penalty points were awarded for either offence.
