Pierre Gasly says contact with Fernando Alonso, which damaged his AT03, was the catalyst for his accident with Lando Norris a lap later.
Both Gasly and Norris retired from the Miami Grand Prix after crashing on lap 41 of the 57-lap race.
What led to that crash, though, started one lap earlier.
Gasly had been hit by the Alpine of Alonso as the Spaniard tried to dive up the inside of Turn 1, causing contact.
Although his car didn’t feel right, the Frenchman tried to stay out to see if it was just a momentary thing but, heading back to the pits on the next lap having conceded that it was game over, he moved over to allow cars through.
Back on track to take the corner, he was clipped by Norris with the McLaren crashing into the wall.

“We tried to do one more lap to see if we could continue, and the car was too damaged, I could not even stay on-track or turn left anymore,” Gasly explained as per Motorsport.com.
“Then on our last lap, on our way back to the pits, I was going slow after Turn 7, and yeah, all the cars passed. I was trying to turn right to give room, and Norris came and clipped my front-left tyre.”
Adding that he was “so slow and trying to squeeze the car as much to the right as I could”, he continued: “I saw some guys passing by, and yeah, in Turn 8, I was turning right, and he came.
“Everything goes quite fast, I was trying to give room to everyone, he came and came close to me, and he clipped the front left.
“I was trying to give room. I could have probably gone to the left, I was turning right, you guys can check the onboards. I don’t know where I could have gone.”
Norris was left to rue a “silly” accident that cost him points on the day.
