Bernie Ecclestone, formerly the chief executive of Formula 1, was arrested in Brazil Wednesday evening, May 25, Reuters reports.

According to Reuters, Ecclestone was arrested after attempting to illegally bring a gun aboard a plane at Viracapos International Airport.

A gun was found in Ecclestone’s luggage during an X-ray screening. According to the report, he had not been aware of its presence within his luggage.

Ecclestone later posted bail and was able to travel to Switzerland, his original destination.

The 91-year-old Ecclestone became chief executive of F1 in the 1970s, overseeing the series until he was replaced in early 2017, following Liberty Media’s takeover of the company.
