Sammy Smith will move to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for a part-time schedule through the end of the 2022 season for Joe Gibbs Racing, JGR announced June 9.
Smith will make his series debut at Road America.
His oval debut will take place at Pocono Raceway.
Each of Smith’s races will take place in JGR’s No. 18. Pilot Flying J and Allstate Peterbilt Group are the primary sponsors behind the effort.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to run the No. 18 Toyota GR Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing,” Smith said in a team release. “Making the jump to this level is huge for me and my career, and I’m thankful for all of my partners and supporters that have helped me get here.”
Smith, 18, competed for JGR in the ARCA Menards Series in 2021, winning the ARCA Menards Series East title with three wins, seven top fives and seven top 10s.
In 2022, Smith is driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the series, currently leading the East points with three wins while running the remainder of the 2022 main-series season now that he is 18.
