For this weekend’s action at Watkins Glen International, it will be a very full paddock at the 3.4-mile road course. Between the five series that will be competing, there will be 194 teams on site. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is the largest of the five with a entry of 49 teams, an increase of 12 over last year.
The DPi class has seven entries. The extra one is Action Express Racing’s second car, the Ally-sponsored No. 48 with Jimmie Johnson, Mike Rockenfeller and Kamui Kobayashi. Both Action Express teams and JDC-Miller MotorSports are running three drivers, while the other four teams are running two.
The LMP2 class has seven entries, although this was originally supposed to be more. United Autosports had previously been entered, but withdrew due to Jim McGuire having a medical procedure recently.
PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports is back to their endurance lineup with Ben Keating (fresh from his GTE-Am victory at Le Mans) back in the Wynn’s-sponsored No. 52 alongside Mikkel Jensen and Scott Huffaker.
In addition, DragonSpeed has added Sebastian Montoya back to the team for Watkins Glen. The son of Juan Pablo Montoya impressed onlookers at Sebring before the team’s race ended early.
The LMP3 class has 11 entries. Muehlner Motorsports America and Forty7 Motorsports are scheduled to return with their Duqueine M30-D08-Nissans this weekend. Ugo de Wilde is currently the only confirmed driver on the list for the Muehlner No. 6.
Meanwhile, the Forty7 No. 7 has Matt Bell and Anthony Mantella on the list. Bell (not to be confused with the American Matt Bell) has previously driven this season in the Andrew Wojteczko Autosport (AWA) No. 13. Mantella is also affiliated with AWA, driving for the team in IMSA Prototype Challenge. Kuno Wittmer told Frontstretch in January that Mantella is part of the reason that the team chose to go with the Duqueine chassis for their IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship campaign.
FastMD Racing is back on the grid with James Vance, Max Hanratty and Nico Varrone in their Duqueine chassis.
GTD Pro has seven entries for Watkins Glen. The new entry is from Risi Competizione, which will be back on the grid for the first time since Sebring. Davide Rigon and Daniel Serra will drive the team’s Ferrari 488 GT3.
