Alex Albon has been discharged from hospital following his crash on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix.
As the chaos involving Zhou Guanyu, George Russell and Pierre Gasly unfolded in front of him, the rear of Albon’s Williams was hit by the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel, firing him towards the right wall of the straight.
The Anglo-Thai driver spun multiple times at pace before coming back onto the track and colliding with Esteban Ocon, also picking up a whack from Yuki Tsunoda.
The Williams car was damaged beyond salvation and Albon was taken to Coventry Hospital for what the team described as precautionary checks.
Shortly after 8pm local time, the team announced he had been discharged from hospital having not suffered any major injuries.

“We are pleased to confirm Alex has been given the all-clear and has been discharged from Coventry Hospital. Thank you to everyone for your well wishes,” the statement read.
Albon himself said he was okay and glad to see the same could be said about Zhou.
“I’m very glad everyone else involved in the first lap incident is okay,” he said. “Thank you to all the medical staff at the track and Coventry Hospital. It’s a shame our race ended before it began today, but we are already fully focused on Austria. Bring on the next one.”
Having qualified in the top 10, Albon’s team-mate Nicholas Latifi saw the crashes unfold behind and described it as “quite scary”.
The Canadian racer made it into Q3 in the wet conditions of qualifying, but despite running in the top 10 during the earlier stages of the race he managed only P12 in the end, admitting the FW44 had not been fast enough to score points.
“I saw it happen in my mirror and it was honestly quite scary,” he told F1.com of the crash. “Then you kind of like reset into the race to restart. You already kind of have a few more positions.
“You just try and hang on for as long as you can and it was slipping away towards the end. But as I said in the end, the car is just not quick enough unfortunately. I was driving as flat out as I could for most of the race.”
Following Mick Schumacher’s points-score for a P8 finish, Latifi is now the only driver on the grid yet to have scored this season.
