Ty Dillon will not return to Petty GMS Racing for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season, he tweeted July 15.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to drive the No. 42 for Petty GMS this year,” Dillon tweeted. “However, at the conclusion of the 2022 Cup Series season, we have mutually agreed to go our separate ways. I’m looking forward to what is next in the future.”
The driver of the No. 42 for next season has yet to be determined, but it has been reported that Noah Gragson is one of the team’s top choices.
“We are appreciative of what Ty has done this year to help grow Petty GMS,” tweeted the team in a statement. “As we continue the season, we remain focused on strong runs and getting the No. 42 Chevy Camaro to victory lane. We wish Ty all the best in the future.”

In his first full-time Cup season since 2020, Dillon currently sits 27th in points with a best finish of 10th at the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt track in April. He will have 17 more races to close out the season, starting this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The Ambetter 301 will take place on Sunday, July 17 at 3 p.m. ET, with TV coverage provided by USA.
