Austin Dillon Replacing Brandon Brown In No. 68 At Indy, Brown To Drive For MHR

Part 1 — The Early Years

Austin Dillon will drive the No. 68 for Brandonbilt Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Brandonbilt announced July 22.

Dillon replaces usual driver Brandon Brown, whose family owns the No. 68. According to a release, the move is due to a lack of sponsorship.

Brown will instead drive the No. 47 for Mike Harmon Racing at Indianapolis in what’s described as a one-race deal.

“We are diligently working to secure the necessary funding that is needed to keep Brandon in the No. 68 for the remainder of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and we look forward to his return the following weekend at Michigan International Speedway,” team owner Jerry Brown said in a release.

Brown has one top five and three top 10s in the series in 2022, his best finish, third, coming last weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He’s currently 13th in points.

NASCAR Cup Series regular Dillon has one Xfinity start on the year, a 31st-place run for Big Machine Racing Team at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Brown announced before the 2022 season sponsorship from LGBCoin, though NASCAR later announced it had not approved the sponsorship deal. The cryptocurrency announced later it would continue to sponsor Brown through other means outside of being able to put its decals on his No. 68.
