Noah Gragson won the pole for the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Michigan International Speedway Saturday (Aug. 6) after going 190.37 mph in qualifying.
It’s his second career pole and second of the season for the No. 9 JR Motorsports driver. Gragson was quickest in practice as well.
He narrowly edged out last year’s Michigan victor AJ Allmendinger for the top spot.
Allmendinger, who looks to go back-to-back after winning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, starts in second. Justin Allgaier is third and Daniel Hemric begins fourth. Sammy Smith rounds out the top five qualifiers.
Josh Berry starts sixth, Brandon Jones begins seventh and Kyle Weatherman is eighth. Ty Gibbs and Brandon Brown round out the top 10 in the lineup.
Jordan Anderson didn’t finish his qualifying lap, spinning around and into the outside wall. Since it was a second car of his team, it didn’t have owner’s points, so he was one who did not qualify. Akinori Ogata and Brennan Poole also didn’t qualify for the race.
In practice, Matt Mills started smoking, which sent him in a slight spin. NASCAR extended the practice to 9:33 a.m. ET due to the lengthy cleanup.
