Virginia Is For Racing Lovers Grand Prix

Saturday’s Virginia Is For Racing Lovers Grand Prix at VIRginia International Raceway is the second to last race of the season for IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge teams.  There are 35 teams entered in the two-hour race.

In Grand Sport, there are 23 teams entered.  At Murillo Racing, Jeff Mosing is back in the No. 56 Mercedes alongside Eric Foss for the first time since Sebring.  He suffered a rib injury away from the track that was causing complications, forcing him out of the car.  In the time since, the team has won three races with Kenton Koch and Marc Miller sharing with Foss.

At Riley Motorsports, Damian Fineschi is back in the No. 14 Supra for his second start of the year, replacing the combination of Thiago Camilo and Javier Quiros.  Fineschi previously raced at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in July, where he finished fifth.

In TCR, there are 12 teams entered.  The only apparent change in the class this week is that there is a TBD on the entry list in Bryan Herta Autosport’s No. 2 Hyundai alongside Ryan Norman.  This is the seat normally occupied by AJ Muss.  Nothing has been indicated by the team in regards to who might be in the car in place of Muss.

There is the possibility that VOLT Racing’s Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman could clinch the Grand Sport championship this Saturday.  They currently have a 220-point lead over Foss.  With 385 points on offer, the title could be locked up Saturday with a strong run for the VOLT Racing duo and issues for Foss.

The Virginia Is For Racing Lovers Grand Prix is scheduled to go green at 4:40 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon.  The race will be streamed live on Peacock starting at 4:35.
