Matt Mills will not compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Kansas Lottery 300 on Sept. 10 due to contracting the flu, he announced on Sept. 8.
Garrett Smithley will drive the BJ McLeod Motorsports No. 5 in place of Mills.
“Unfortunately, I will not be able to compete in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 due to the flu,” Mills said in a statement he put out on Twitter. “I have tested negative for COVID-19. I have a great team of doctors around me, and they have advised me to sit out this weekend.”
Mills expects to be cleared to return at the next race at Bristol Motor Speedway next Friday, Sept. 16.
Mills most recently competed at the Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway, where he finished 24th. His best finish on the season is 18th, back in May at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Smithley made one Xfinity start this year for DGM Racing at Charlotte.
