Neal Chance Powers Jarrod Wood To Australian Radial Record

In just its second outing after acquiring David Reese’s world-beating small-block, screw-blown Reese Brothers Race Cars Camaro, Australian radial tire racing standout Jarrod Wood is basking in the ongoing success of the car on a second continent. Wood recently added another accolade to this car’s resume, winning the Midnight Mayhem event at the Sydney Dragway, but more importantly, clocked a new Australian radial tire record lap of 3.62 seconds at 209.98 mph on his way to the crown in the Outlaw Radial category, over Steve Smith. Wood made runs of 3.70, 3.64, 3.63. and 3.62 during the weekend, showing incredible consistency and promise in the first full weekend of racing under his guidance.

The car features a Neal Chance billet bolt-together torque converter, with what Wood says is “C.I.A. spec” — code word for “we aren’t telling you nothin’ ” —  paired with  a Ty-Drive lockup converter unit and a Liberty five speed transmission. It all sits behind an incredibly potent and unique Noonan 4.6-inch bore spacing, small-block Hemi with a screw-type supercharger. The carbon-fiber-bodied car, in conjunction with its small-block power plant and use of titanium where applicable makes for an exceptionally lightweight car, and as Wood says in response to his record lap: “light is right.”
