It was announced by Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) on Thursday (Feb. 23rd) that series co-owner Tony Stewart will be returning to once again compete full-time.

Stewart’s varied resume of racing accomplishments, which includes winning the USAC Triple Crown in 1995, the IRL/IndyCar championship in 1997 and three NASCAR Cup Series championships, was added to in 2021 when “Smoke” won the inaugural SRX championship. Stewart finished fourth in the series standings in 2022.

Stewart currently holds a number of records in the series, including most feature wins and most podiums. Only four features have concluded without Stewart on the podium.

In addition to SRX, Stewart is also competing full-time in the NHRA Top Alcohol class, driving for McPhillips Racing.

“I’m excited to race full-time in SRX for a third straight season and compete for another championship,” Stewart said in the SRX press release. “I’m really proud of what we’ve all built, and the quality of drivers we’ve assembled for 2023 is a testament to SRX’s success, and the passion and excitement we’ve earned from fans in the short-track community.”

“To have Tony Stewart back for his third year in SRX is huge,” said Don Hawk, the CEO of the series. “Tony has an immeasurable impact on the SRX brand, racing product and the ESPN Broadcast. Tony is really involved during the season and off season. He makes me think deeply about the product on the track, the driver selections, racetracks, and race format. Tony is a fierce competitor first and foremost, and never lets his ownership position in SRX interfere with a good decision or the racing product. It’s not often you can say you have 3-time NASCAR Champion driver, multiple series car owner, current NHRA driver, NASCAR Hall of Famer who’s not just your boss, but your friend.”

The third season of SRX will run exclusively on six straight Thursday nights and will be broadcast by ESPN. The first race will be held on July 13, 2023, at Stafford Motor Speedway.
