NASCAR Cup & Xfinity Series Qualifying Canceled Due to Weather

NASCAR Cup Series

NASCAR has made the call to cancel practice and qualifying for Saturday’s (Feb. 25) NASCAR Xfinity Series Production Alliance Group 300 and for the NASCAR Cup Series Pala Casino 400 at Auto Club Speedway due to inclement weather.

Christopher Bell will start on the pole for Sunday’s Cup race, while Austin Hill will start on the pole for the Xfinity race. Daytona 500 winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will start alongside Bell on Sunday, while John Hunter Nemechek will line up next to Hill for Saturday’s anticipated Xfinity race.

No official word has been given on the status of the Xfinity race, which is scheduled to run at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday. The weather forecast expects rain to be consistent throughout the day.

As a result of this cancelation, the starting lineups will be via a metric consisting of previous race finish (50%), owner points (35%) and fastest lap in the previous race (15%).

There were 40 Xfinity entries for the 38-car field. Because they failed to qualify for last week’s race at Daytona International Speedway, Garrett Smithley and Ryan Vargas have been sent home this week as well.
