NASCAR Announces New Rules Package for Short Tracks, Road Courses

Cup Series pack racing at Phoenix, NKP

NASCAR will debut a new aerodynamics rules package at Phoenix Raceway for the NASCAR Cup Series, it announced Feb. 28.

The package’s goal is to improve the competition at both short tracks and road courses with the Next Gen car.

With the changes, downforce will be decreased “significantly,” per a release from NASCAR announcing the news.

A 2-inch rear spoiler and the removal of several parts underneath the car will assist in the aerodynamic changes.

The tracks at which the package will be used coincide with those at which NASCAR will begin using wet weather equipment.

These include all road courses and short tracks on the Cup schedule except for Bristol Motor Speedway and Dover Motor Speedway.
