With a final-round lap of 29.024 seconds (186.053 mph), three-time Las Vegas Motor Speedway winner Joey Logano put the No. 22 Pennzoil Ford on the pole for Sunday’s (March 5) NASCAR Cup Series Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas.
Logano beat out Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron to score his second Las Vegas pole and 27th of his career. After Byron, Ryan Blaney will take the green flag from the third position, followed by Ty Gibbs and last week’s winner Kyle Busch.
2021 Pennzoil 400 winner Kyle Larson qualified sixth, followed by Brad Keselowski, Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, and Christopher Bell rounding out the top 10.
Xfinity Series regular Josh Berry, filling in for Chase Elliott while the 2020 champion recovers from a snowboarding injury, qualified the No. 9 Chevrolet in 32nd.
Neither Tyler Reddick nor BJ McLeod ran a single lap in practice or qualifying.
Reddick, currently last in Cup Series points, watched the action from the garage as his 23XI Racing crew performed an engine change after discovering a problem in his No. 45 Toyota.
During Group B practice, Harrison Burton ran over what was reportedly a NASCAR Xfinity Series lug nut, which punctured the radiator on his Wood Brothers Racing No. 21, which lost grip on the spilled coolant and pitched nose-first into the outside retaining barrier.
Burton was checked and released from the infield care center after the heavy impact and will start from the rear of the field in a backup car tomorrow.
