The already unparalleled variety of makes and models of automobiles in the “Street Outlaws No Prep Kings” series expanded by yet one more this week, as franchise star Kye Kelley unveiled his fresh new ride for the 2023 campaign. And the car itself isn’t the only story here.

Kelley, who finished last year’s season five second in the points standings to Ryan Martin, gave the public — and himself — its first look at the all-new Buick Regal out of the Wizard Race Cars shop in Holden, Louisiana. The sinister new machine is the culmination of months of anticipation from his fans, after rumor began to swirl late last year that the new car would in fact not be a Camaro as has been traditional for the Team NOLA leader. It also confirms speculation that Kelley would transition away from the nitrous oxide combination to a screw-supercharged Hemi. The triple-black Regal sports a Noonan billet Hemi topped with a PSI supercharger. The screw supercharger combination, while impacted some by offseason parity adjustments, remains one of the most refined combinations in the sport, and is certain to keep Kye right in contention for the title.

For Kelley, who has campaigned a series of third- and sixth-generation Camaros carrying the “Shocker” name or variants of said name since first bursting on the “Street Outlaws” scene in 2015, the move to the G-body isn’t as surprising as it may seem. In fact, in hindsight, you could argue we all should have seen it coming, as he built and raced an ’87 Regal, known as “Claude Banks,” for the “Street Outlaws: End Game” show.

The car is also not the first unique body style that Jason Wood and his team at Wizard Race Cars have built for members of the “No Prep Kings” circuit, as they also assembled the 1970 Dodge Challenger of Randy Williams. And it also will not be the last.

After finalizing the car, Kelley and company will be testing ahead of the season six opener in Ohio, that will take place June 2-3.
