Cuadra Pro Stock Family Makes Four-Wide History

Cuadra Pro Stock Family Makes Four-Wide History

The Cuadra family made history at this weekend’s Circle K NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at the zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C., becoming the first family to race four abreast in a professional drag race.

The four-wide event marked the Pro Stock debut of David Cuadra, the twin brother to Christian, a now four-year veteran of the category, making this, the second of just two four-wide races this season, the perfect opportunity for the history-making quadrant.

The NHRA, recognizing the significance of the moment, tweaked its systematic qualifying lineup in the fourth and final session of qualifying to make the photo-op — and the memory for the Cuadra family — a reality. Traditionally run from the bottom of the order to the top based on the overall qualifying standings, the Cuadra’s were shifted from their incoming positions of Nos. 4, 15, 16, and 18, to match up in the first pair out in Saturday’s final session. On that run, both David and Fernando, Jr. encountered trouble early and slowed, but it didn’t diminish the dream for the Mexican business entrepreneur and his hard-working young sons.

“We were looking forward to this moment. It’s my dream come true. And I want to thank all the support guys, Elite Motorsports, who make all this possible…Erica Enders and the whole family. Wow, there are no words to say thank you,” Fernando, Sr. Said following the historic run.

The three brothers moved on to raceday Sunday, where Fernando, Jr. worked his way through the opening two quads to earn a trip into his first career final round. There, a foul start ended his chances right on the starting line, but the second quickest elapsed time of the finale assures it won’t be the last time he is seen in the late rounds.

“Making it to the first final round of my career at a four-wide race is really incredible,” said Cuadra Jr. “I know that our first win is close and we just keep getting better. This is a great team and I’m proud of my brother, David, for doing so well in his Pro Stock debut.”
