Following a fire detected in a pitlane garage during a break between practice sessions at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia on Tuesday morning, official pre-season testing activities got canceled for the remainder of the day. On-track testing activity will not go ahead on Wednesday.
A statement released by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) on Tuesday evening confirms there will be no further running on track Wednesday, the second day of testing for the 2023/24 season in Valencia. Whether track activities will resume on Thursday is yet unknown at this moment.
“In response to an incident earlier today at Formula E pre-season testing in Valencia when a fire caused damage to a garage in the pit lane, on-track testing activity will not go ahead tomorrow, Wednesday,” reads a statement issued by the FIA and Formula E.
Adding: “Damage from the incident was contained, following the activation of emergency procedures. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution but released without treatment.”
Regarding the cause of the incident that prevented further running during the afternoon, the FIA explains: “An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, but has already identified an issue which is being addressed.
“The investigation and further safety assessments will be completed, and we aim to resume on-track activities from Thursday, subject to final confirmation tomorrow.”

The incident is believed to have happened in the box of the GEN3 Formula E battery supplier WAE, formerly known as Williams Advanced Engineering.
Formula E pre-season testing got underway on Tuesday morning at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, setting off the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship campaign.
The opening session saw the Jaguar TCS Racing of Mitch Evans registering the fastest time, setting a lap time of 1.24.474s, ahead of TAG Heuer Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa and Sebastien Buemi, who crossed the finish line in third place with Envision’s Racing challenger.
Edoardo Mortara made his first official outing at the wheel of the Mahindra Racing, and Da Costa teammate Pascal Wehrlein completed the top five.
But with one hour of running remaining, DS PENSKE Robert Shwartzman wound up off-track in Sector 3, which caused the session to be red-flagged.
