The southwestern United States is known for its clean, sun-kissed classic cars as the hot, arid climate is kind to automobiles, and Nathan Spangler’s Ford Fairmont looks to be just such a candidate.
Everyone in the know knows that Fairmonts are light and share the Fox-body Mustang’s underpinnings, which makes them great for racing. The equivalent of Chevy’s Malibu of the time, the Ford Fairmont is often sought out for those who are tired of the Mustang game, but want to take advantage of the two cars’ shared engineering.
We found Spangler’s Fairmont for sale on the TurboBullet Parts classifieds Facebook page and it’s equipped with plenty of high-quality go-fast parts.
Starting with the powerplant, the Fairmont doesn’t just boast your average LS engine swap, but a 6.2-liter LS3 powerplant which takes the out-of-the-box horsepower numbers up a good bit over earlier LS engines. We’re not sure if it’s carbureted or fuel-injected, but either option will produce some great power numbers as well as elapsed times in such a lightweight chassis.
Digging deeper is a built Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission with a Neal Chance torque converter that sends power back to a built 8.8 rearend that’s been upgraded with 9-inch axle ends.
Suspension-wise, the Fairmont has been fitted with Team Z Motorsports components front and rear, along with Strange Engineering coilover shocks. Wilwood Engineering disc brakes are quite the upgrade from the stock system, and while the beautiful RC Components drag wheels are in-line with the quality of the rest of the upgraded components, we think the optional Weld Draglites are the best choice to match the Ford’s fine patina paint.
