RM Sotheby’s rounds off its European Auction Calendar with Outstanding €16 Million Sale in Munich

MUNICH, GERMANY – November 28, 2023 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s returned to Munich for its second sale at Motorworld and rounded off its European auction calendar in great style, grossing €16,102,850 in total sales with 88% of all lots sold. The auction followed on from last year’s remarkable success, breaking records in the process.

The 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti, presented in outstanding condition and finished in striking Nocciola Metallizzato, proved to be the unquestionable star of the show. The car presented—number 82 of the 121 produced by the factory—is fully restored and Ferrari Classiche certified, and far exceeded its high estimate to achieve a world-record auction price of €3,098,750.

The second highest seller of the night was the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster ‘Outlaw’, a car that garnered a lot of pre-sale interest due to its bringing a tastefully customised ‘Outlaw’ style to the classic lines of the 300 SL Roadster. Subject to a €400,000 restoration, it retains its matching-numbers engine block, and went for €1,096,250. Rounding off the top three sellers in Munich was the 2023 BMW 3.0 CSL. Created to celebrate the M division’s 50-year anniversary, the car is exceptionally rare, being one of just 50 built. With 560 horsepower on tap and with just 33 kilometres on the clock, it richly deserved its €1,017,500 selling price.

One of the most historically significant rally cars ever offered at auction, the 2011 Citroën DS3 WRC is believed to be one of just 13 Works-prepared DS3 WRCs constructed between 2011 and 2016. The example sold boasts a remarkable 11 WRC victories, 16 podiums, and 80 stage wins—a record for any WRC chassis. Rally legend Sébastien Loeb drove the car to victory in the 2012 Rallye de France, where he won his 9th WRC title. This remarkable car sold for €713,750.
