Former Formula 1 Grand Prix winner Robert Kubica returns to the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) with ORLEN Team AO by TF to compete in the LMP2 class, the series confirmed on Monday.
The 2021 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) Driver’s Champion, Robert Kubica, comes back to contest the 2024 season as he leads the No. 14 challenger line-up with ORLEN Team AO by TF Oreca-Gibson in the LMP2 class.
The 38-year-old Pole will combine an ELMS campaign with a World Endurance Championship (WEC) program, as he has joined the Italian team, AF Corse, to compete in the Hypercar class for the outfit, driving a third Ferrari 499P model.
In 2023, the Polish driver accomplished a notable career feat, claiming the FIA WEC championship in the LMP2 class with the ORLEN Team WRT.
The 2024 ELMS Grid
Next year, the leading continental endurance championship will feature a record 43 cars set to compete across the four classes to contest the six-race 2024 calendar.
Overall, the two LMP2 classes reunite 22 entries and a line-up of 10 LMP3 cars.
Frederic Lequien, European Le Mans Series CEO, commented: “As we gear up for the 2024 European Le Mans Series, it’s with immense pride that we announce a huge entry of 43 cars.”
“The LMP2 category stands out prominently with a formidable line-up of 22 cars, including 8 Pro/Am entries, famous drivers, and a roster of top-tier racing talent from across the globe.”
Moreover, the brand-new LMGT3 class will be represented by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin.
In that regard, Lequien outlines: “The addition of the LMGT3 class with iconic brands further elevates the prestige of the series.”
“It’s truly inspiring to witness the return of familiar teams and drivers, adding a sense of continuity to the upcoming 2024 season.
“Equally, I extend a warm welcome to those making their ELMS debut in Barcelona. We are looking forward to the first race in Spain in April when we will see who the main contenders will be for this year’s titles of ELMS Champions.”
Action on track begins with the official tests set for April 9 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain, where the season will kick start a few days later with the inaugural 4 hours of Barcelona.
On May 5, ELMS celebrates the second round of the season, the 4 Hours of Le Castellet in France.
Then, the competitors will head to Italy for Round 3, the 4 Hours of Imola.
