FIA Concludes Compliance Investigation into F1-Toto and Susie Wolff

The FIA released a statement on Thursday, advising the investigation launched by its Compliance Department to look into a potential conflict of interest between an F1 Team Principal and a member of FOM staff has concluded, as the F1 governing body understands FOM’s code of conduct has been adhered to.

The statement released on Thursday by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) brings to an end the controversial saga involving Mercedes F1 Team Principal and CEO Toto Wolff and F1 Academy Managing Director Susie Wolff.

Following a review of Formula One Management’s F1 Code of Conduct and F1 Conflict of Interest Policy and confirmation that appropriate protective measures are in place to mitigate any potential conflicts, the FIA is satisfied that FOM’s compliance management system is robust enough to prevent any unauthorized disclosure of confidential information,” reads the statement.

And adds: “The FIA can confirm that there is no ongoing investigation in terms of ethical or disciplinary inquiries involving any individual.”

As the regulator, the FIA has a duty to maintain the integrity of global motorsport. The FIA reaffirms its commitment to integrity and fairness.”

On Wednesday, the controversial episode saw all Formula One teams issue coordinated public statements, which read: “We can confirm that we have not made any complaint to the FIA regarding the allegation of information of a confidential nature being passed between an F1 team principal and a member of FOM personnel.”

Moreover, all the teams reaffirmed their support to Susie Wolff, named the Managing Director of the F1 Academy last March, remarking: “We are pleased and proud to support F1 Academy and its managing director through our commitment to sponsor an entrant in our liveries from next season.”

On Tuesday evening, the FIA took to social media, stating: “The FIA is aware of media speculation centered on the allegation of information of a confidential nature being passed to an F1 team principal from a member of FOM personnel. The FIA Compliance Department is looking into the matter.

The Formula One Management (FOM) is the sport’s commercial rights holder.

A report from a media outlet citing a supposed comment made by Toto Wolff on information available only to FOM staff in a team principals meeting would have indicated a possible conflict of interest between Toto and his wife, Susie.
