Formula 1’s hugely successful Netflix series Drive to Survive has inspired other imitators in the motor racing world.

Moto GP Unlimited arrived in 2022, IndyCar launched 100 Days to Indy last year and the third series of Formula E’s Unplugged hit screens earlier this month.

Now one of the biggest four-wheeled motorsport competitions has given a first glimpse of its new series which will compete directly against Drive to Survive on the same Netflix platform. Full Speed, which will arrive on Netflix at the end of the month, takes a behind-the-scenes look at NASCAR.

The promoters of America’s most popular form of motor racing will be eager to recreate the enormous success of Drive to Survive, which has been credited with raising the profile of F1 in the USA. Since the global series was taken over by Liberty Media in 2017 the number of US rounds on the schedule has increased to three, including heavily promoted rounds in Miami and Las Vegas, both home to NASCAR rounds.

While NASCAR’s popularity remains seemingly unaffected, like F1 the series has embraced several innovations in recent years as it strives to bolster its popularity. It added its first street race last year in Chicago and sent a team including seven-times champion Jimmie Johnson and F1 world champion Jenson Button to compete a modified NASCAR at Le Mans.

The sixth season of F1’s Drive to Survive is expected to arrive shortly before the start of pre-season texting next month.

F1 has continued to build on its relationship with Netflix. Last year four drivers participated in the first live sporting event streamed by the platform. Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz Jnr, Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon competed for the Netflix Cup, each partnered with a professional golf player, at the Wynn Golf Club ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
