Texan Adrian Herrera is set to debut a sleek, brand new 1967 Chevelle in the No Prep Kings (NPK) series. The car, built by BRE Rods & Classics in California, features horsepower from a 590 cubic inch Noonan Hemi 4.9-inch bore space engine, paired with an F4X-140 ProCharger, that was built by Bullet Racing Engines. It utilizes FuelTech electronics and will feature the latest FT700 Plus display and engine management system when it hits the track. The horsepower is backed up by a Rossler three-speed Turbo 400 and a Neal Chance torque converter combiation. The 1967 Chevelle rides on Penske Racing shocks, and was built by BRE to accommodate 34 or 36 inch drive tires wrapped around the Weld Racing Delta-1 wheels.
Herrera took delivery of the car this year, and is now awaiting delivery of the FuelTech display. Once complete, Herrera and his tuner, Jeff Galasco from BRE Race Cars, will travel to Atlanta for dyno testing and tuning at FuelTech. Galasco will serve as the team’s tuner as they wrap 2024 and proceed into the 2025 season.
Herrera, who started racing in El Paso, Texas, at age 16 behind the wheel of a Honda Civic, invested in the development of what he says is the first and only electronic parachute release system for race cars, E-Shoot Systems, which recently was granted a U.S. patent and received approval from the NHRA and IHRA for use in competition. The new Chevelle build will test and demonstrate the system’s reliability in a 200-plus mph capable car. Following dyno testing and tuning, Herrera plans to make his No Prep Kings debut at his home track, the Texas Motorplex near Dallas, on October 27th and 28th at the season’s final race.
