Kye Kelley's Infamous "Shocker" Camaro Destroyed In Testing Crash

Kye Kelley made his mark on Discovery Channel’s hit show “Street Outlaws” behind the wheel of the “Shocker,” his 1994 Camaro. Kelley beat the biggest names in the no-prep and street racing world driving the third-get Camaro. Unfortunately, Kelley revealed recently that Shocker was destroyed in a testing crash for Discovery Channel’s America’s List show.

Kelley wanted Team NOLA to be well represented with more team members on America’s List. With that in mind, Kelley decided to let his fellow Team NOLA racer David Gates try to race his way onto the show in the Shocker. The plan was to put Gates behind the wheel as soon as possible so he could get used to the car.

When Gates and Kelley arrived at the testing spot, he says they didn’t walk the road to see what kind of shape it was in, and that turned out to be a mistake. A pond that was beside the road allowed dew to creep in, and that’s what led to the crash. Gates was on a good hit when Shocker made a violent turn to the left and exited the street. The Camaro tumbled end-over-end, rolling several times before it came to rest. Thankfully, Gates wasn’t injured during the crash, but Shocker was mortally wounded.

Shocker is a total loss, so Kelley is working with Wizard Race Cars to build a new version of the iconic Camaro. Wizard Race Cars plan on taking as many bars that are salvageable from the original car’s chassis and using them in the new car so the OG Shocker’s legacy will live on. Kelley goes into more detail during this video and covers his future plans for the version of the Shocker.
