General Motors has registered to become an engine provider in Formula 1.
If approved, GM would supply the engines for Andretti Global, Michael Andretti’s prospective U.S.-based F1 team.
“We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit,” GM President Mark Reuss said in a release. “With our deep engineering and racing expertise, we’re confident we’ll develop a successful power unit for the series, and position Andretti Cadillac as a true works team.
“We will run with the very best, at the highest levels, with passion and integrity that will help elevate the sport for race fans around the world.”
Andretti is hoping for a move into F1 as early as 2025. The FIA has approved the team’s bid to become an 11th organization in F1 but has received backlash from some of the existing teams, and F1 itself has not yet approved Andretti.
GM’s entrance into the series would not occur until 2028.
